Julie Hunkapiller, PhD
Julie specializes in strategic consulting and leadership development within the biotech sector. Her advising focuses on cultivating highly functional leaders by emphasizing organizational and strategic vision, relationship building grounded in trust, and authentic leadership through empowerment. Julie's coaching experience spans a diverse range of professionals, including executives, scientists, engineers, and clinicians, and fosters effective collaboration that values individual contributions and drives results through recognition and transparency.
Prior to establishing her consulting firm, Julie spent over a decade at Genentech, where she built and led strategic teams and large-scale data-focused programs for research and development. Her extensive understanding of the biotech industry, combined with her expertise in leadership development, makes her a valuable advisor for individuals and organizations seeking to enhance their strategic capabilities and leadership effectiveness. Julie holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from UCSF and completed postdoctoral training at Genentech.
Ed O’Neil, PhD MPA, FAAN
Ed offers his extensive expertise as an advisor. Drawing on decades of experience working with leading health systems, research organizations, hospitals, health plans, and policy makers, Ed assists organizations in navigating the complexities of a changing healthcare landscape. Previously, he was a Professor and Founding Director of the Center for the Health Professions at the University of California, San Francisco, where he created and led numerous influential leadership development programs, including the Pew Biomedical Scholars Program and the Executive Nurse Fellows Program.
With a distinguished career focused on healthcare system change through improved policy, organizational design, and leadership, Ed brings a wealth of knowledge to his advising services. He established O’Neil & Associates in 2001 to address strategic challenges in healthcare and, more recently, associated with Hunkapiller & O’Neil Advisors to focus on coaching and leadership development. His deep understanding of the healthcare industry, coupled with his experience in developing impactful leaders and programs, makes him a valuable resource for organizations seeking strategic guidance and enhanced leadership capabilities.
